The shooting last Valentine's Day at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High Schoolhouse in Parkland, Florida, prompted a wave of student and parent activism for stricter gun laws not seen afterward previous massacres.

Feb. fourteen, 2018
Former Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Nicholas Cruz, opened fire at the school in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 students and staff members. As the binge unfolded, student David Hogg began to film his and boyfriend students' demand for change while hiding in a night closet. "I call legislators of this country to have action and finish this from happening," Hogg said. "Thousands of people have died from gun violence and it's time to have a stand. Forget the NRA. Forget the political backing. Take a stance for human lives, for children's lives."

After ThinkProgress publishes a story highlighting the over two dozen corporations offering discounts to NRA members, several companies responded that they were terminating their agreements with the gun rights grouping. Activist Michael Skolnik posts on Twitter a list of the companies that still accept a human relationship with the NRA and launches the hashtag #BoycottNRA. Within 48 hours, MetLife, Hertz, Symantec Corp, Enterprise Holdings, Beginning National Bank of Omaha, and other companies announced they were catastrophe discount programs for NRA members.

David Hogg calls on tourists to boycott the land of Florida until lawmakers pass sensible gun reform legislation. Hogg took to Twitter to inquire spring breakers to spend their holiday in Puerto Rico, which "could really apply the economic back up that the authorities failed to provide." In another tweet, Hogg noted that maybe politicians will "listen to the billion dollar tourism industry in FL. #neveragain."

During the second National School Walkout, organized by a Connecticut pupil following the Parkland shooting, students held voter registration drives and issued ultimatums to lawmakers who refused to act.
